Mexico took on Ecuador the previous week

Body:

When Mexico took on Ecuador the previous week, all eyes were on Chicharito.

The striker had not been playing that much of Football for the Los Blancos. So, obviously, there were concerns about the possible rustiness in his play, but, he started and seemed as if he was in as good a rhythm as ever.

He made commence straightaway and Mexico was up 1-0 within 15 minutes of the start of the game.

It’s not only the fact that Hernandez found the back of the net; it’s his overall display which was heartening to see.

Movement is something which has been his biggest strength over the years and he displayed that strength once again and if it was not for a little bit of unluckiness, he could have easily doubled Mexico’s lead. He was so close to it a couple of times.
However, his solitary goal proved to be good enough at the end.

It was actually a delightful night for the Mexico boss Miguel Herrera because all his players who were in question ahead of the game came to the party.

Apart from Hernandez, the shot stopper Jesus Corona was at it as well.

A so-so performance for Corona might have made him suffer exclusion from the squad for the big competition, Gold Cup.

But, with his remarkable saves out of which one was a penalty, he ended up becoming the player of the game.

Speaking to the press about both these players, Herrera said, “It has been a bit of a frustrating period for Javier, but, today, he put all that aside and just played his game. Jesus was absolutely sensational too. So, pretty happy overall.”

Guillermo Ochoa is the other contender for grabbing that goalkeeping spot for Mexico in the forthcoming Gold Cup.
